No to the cuttting of dewclaws

 

 

More and more people are being moved by the atrocity and uselessness of the surgical of the dewclaws of our dogs’ back paws, especially for Bernese mountain dogs, which are all born with a fifth dewclaw (even sometimes sixth one). Other breeds undergo this mutilation too but the subject is less touched on because only one in 10 to 15 puppies are born with dewclaws.

A lot of veterinary surgeons are refusing to proceed with this amputation, rightly taking offence at the odious and tyrannical character of such operation.

It is time to look at this problem from every aspect, It has been neglected for a long time and after all only affects a very small part of the population (on the French national scale). It nevertheless remains a delicate subject about which affected people should now be able to take a stand

It is with this aim that I have introduced, together with the Veterinary surgeon Sebastian MIRKOVIC, an appeal to the European Council. We await their conclusions.

The cutting of dewclaws must be stopped for two main reasons :

         - Purely medical reason being developed by the Veterinary surgeon  MIRKOVIC,

              - Legal reason which I am going to develop.

We invite all of those who are sensitive to the necessity to stop the suffering of our bernese for useless reasons and  all of those who wish to see the law being enforced, to sign the enclosed petition and to send it to as many people as possible,  to the veterinary surgeons, the breeders of Swiss mountain dogs and other impacted breeds (Leonberger, Rottweilers…).
